“For me as a Catholic, it is important not only to live my faith through prayer and service in my own community but with concrete acts of mercy that reach out to any human person living in situation of exclusion. Flyktingar Lund has been a community that welcomes everybody who wants to help newcomers to integrate in society whilst respecting differences and focusing on this common goal”

Ivette Arroyo, founder of Flyktingar Lund.

Volunteering means to contribute with your talent, time, knowledge, or other resources to support the work of S:t Thomas Samarit-Flyktingar Lund. Our activities to assist asylum-seekers, refugees and other immigrants are based on solidarity in action. Solidarity implies to value our fellow human beings whilst respecting them as individuals with their own culture and beliefs. Solidarity is a universal bond that links together all human beings, race and belief.

Some people volunteer because they are engaged with the cause of social justice for refugees; others to develop new skills or to meet new people; and some simply want to deploy their talents whilst meeting amazing newcomers. No matter what your motivation to volunteer is, helping people living at the margins of society will be a source of joy for yourself as an individual. The volunteering tasks that you agree to carry out will benefit newcomers and contribute to community cohesion in Lund and surroundings. The expected long-term impact of our work will be a more reconciled society and contribute to peace building.
